GreenPan Care and Use Instructions

1) Important Safeguards
Read all safety information carefully and thoroughly before using this product!

  • Do not allow children near the stove while you cook.
  • To avoid injuries always use caution when handling hot pots.
  • Never leave cookware unattended while using.
  • Do not allow handles to extend over a hot burner.
  • Make sure the handles do not extend over the edge of the cooking surface.
  • The handles of your cookware are constructed to minimize heat transfer. Cover and handles may become hot during prolonged cooking. Use with caution when removing covers or lifting the handles. Touch lightly to be sure the handles have not become hot. Use oven mitts or potholders if necessary.
  • Always use oven gloves when removing pans from a hot oven.
  • Where Bakelite handles are fitted, always check their temperature resistance before using in an oven.
  • Thermolon non-stick coating is completely PTFE-free and heat resistant up to 450°C/850°F, where the normal PTFE coating is only heat resistant up to 260°C/500°F. Thermolon non-stick coating releases no toxic fumes.

2) Usage Guide
Before First Use:

  • Remove all labels.
  • Wash in hot soapy water; rinse and dry thoroughly.
  • Season the inside of the pan smearing the non-stick surface with a little oil on a tissue or cloth. This process should be repeated from time to time.

Cooking:

Recommendations in order not to warp your GreenPan product:

  • When sautéing, stir-frying or frying, always preheat the pan at the temperature setting you’ll use to cook.
  • Do not preheat on high to heat the pans faster. While using cooking techniques such as sautéing, stir frying, or frying preheat at medium to medium-high. This will make sure your food begins to cook or to fry properly as soon as placed in the pan.
  • Do not leave your cookware on a hot burner for longer than is necessary for it to reach the proper cooking temperature, or allow the pan to boil dry.

Recommendations for energy saving and best cooking and frying results:

  • Cook on a burner that is close to the base diameter of the pan you have selected.
  • When cooking on gas, adjust the flame so it does not flare up the sides of the pan.
  • Use high heat for boiling and reducing liquids.
  • Use medium-high heat for searing, sautéing, frying and stir-frying.
  • Use low heat to warm foods, simmer or prepare delicate sauces.
  • For energy saving, do not use your dishwasher to clean your cookware.

Recommendations for best food release:

  • Always start with a clean pan. Wash carefully and be sure you’ve removed all traces of oil and food before you store your pan.
  • Remove food from the refrigerator 10 minutes before you intend to cook or fry.
  • Remember to pre-heat your pan and allow the oil to heat for a minute before you add food to the pan.
  • What can you do if food starts to stick? As long as the surface of the cookware has been properly seasoned and cared for, food should not stick.

Cooking oil and butter:

  • Remember, some oils and fats burn at low temperatures.                                               We suggest you use the “Butter test”: Heat the pan over medium to medium-high heat and then put a small amount of butter in the pan. When the butter begins to bubble briskly (it should not brown), the pan is ready to use. If the butter begins to burn and turn brown, the heat setting is too high. Carefully wipe the burned butter out of the pan with a paper towel, lower the heat and begin again.
  • Fats and oils work in various temperature ranges. We recommend olive oil; it’s healthier and has a relatively high burning point.
  • With non-stick cookware, you may want to use oil or fat for added crispness, colour or flavour. It is not necessary to use cooking oil for easy food release.
  • Allow the oil to heat for a minute before adding food to the pan. If you prefer using aerosol sprays, we recommend that you spray the food, not the pan. These sprays cause residue build-up that is difficult to remove from cookware.

Utensils:

  • Metal utensils may cause scratching. Plastic, rubber, or wood utensils are recommended to prolong the life of the pan.
  • Do not cut food with a sharp knife while it is in the pan.

3) Care and Cleaning:

  • Allow pan to cool down before cleaning it thoroughly after each use. Putting a hot pan in water can cause irreparable warping.
  • Your GreenPan product is very easy and convenient to clean. In the case of dishwasher use, the non-stick properties of all ceramic-type non-stick coatings may slowly start to fade after many cycles of washing. Hence, to preserve your pan at its optimum we recommend that you simply wash it in warm soapy water with a soft cloth. Rinse and dry with a towel.
  • Do NOT use steel wool or nylon scrubbing pads. For best results, clean with a cloth or soft sponge.
  • Do NOT use oven cleaner or any cleaner that is abrasive or contains chlorine bleach. Do not gouge the non-stick coating.
  • Food film, if not removed, may cause discoloration on the pan when reheated. If this occurs, simply heat some white vinegar in the pan (avoid breathing the vinegar fumes) and clean as normal. Then re-season. Slight surface marks and discolorations are normal and will not affect the performance of the coating.
  • Halogen and ceramic stovetops – Take care to ensure that your stovetop and your GreenPan™  product is kept free from debris.

We wish you a lot of cooking pleasure with this GreenPan product. Please save these care and use instructions.
