GreenPanTM Care and Use Instructions

1) Important Safeguards

Read all safety information carefully and thoroughly before using this product!

  • Do not allow children near the stove while you cook.
  • theTo avoid injury always use caution when handling hot pots.
  • Never leave cookware unattended while in use.
  • Do not allow handles to extend over a hot burner.
  • Make sure  handles do not extend over the edge of the stove.
  • The handles of your cookware are constructed to minimize heat transfer.  Lids and handles may become hot during prolonged cooking. Use caution when removing lids or lifting with the handles.  Touch lightly to be sure the handles have not become hot. Use oven mitts or potholders if necessary.
  • Always use oven gloves when removing pans from a hot oven.
  • Where Bakelite handles are fitted, always check their temperature resistance before using in an oven.
  • ThermolonTM non stick coatings are completely PTFE-free and heat resistant up to 450°C/850°F, whereas normal PTFE coatings are only heat resistant up to 260°C/500°F. ThermolonTM non stick coatings release no toxic fumes even when heated above 260°C/500°F.
  • 2) Usage Guide
  • Before First Use:

    • Remove all labels.
    • Wash in warm soapy water; rinse and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
    • Smear the inside of the pan’s non stick surface with a little oil on a tissue or soft cloth. The pan should not be smeared with oil before storing - only just prior to use.

    Cooking:

Recommendations in order not to warp your GreenPanTM product:

    • Do not preheat on high to heat the pans any faster than normal.
    • Do not leave your cookware on a hot burner for longer than is necessary for it to reach the proper cooking temperature.
    • Do not allow the pan to boil dry.

Recommendations for energy saving and best cooking and frying results:

    • Cook on a burner that is approximately similar in base diameter to that of the pan you have selected.
    • When cooking on gas, adjust the flame so it does not flare up the sides of the pan.
    • The patented ThermolonTM non stick technology is heat resistant up to 450°C/850°F. This means that if you accidentally overheat your pan, no toxic fumes will be released; moreover, the coating itself will not be destroyed. In combination with the faster heat distribution of ThermolonTM it makes your pan perfect for short term high heat searing, frying or even flambéing.
    • Use high heat for boiling and reducing liquids.
    • Use low heat to warm foods, simmer or prepare delicate sauces.
    • For energy saving, do not use your dishwasher to clean your cookware.

    Recommendations for best food release:

    • Always start with a clean pan. Wash carefully and be sure that you have removed all traces of cooking oil and food before you store your pan.
    • Remove food from the refrigerator 10 minutes before you intend to cook or fry.
    • Remember to pre-heat your pan and allow the oil to heat for a minute before you add food to the pan.
    • What can you do if food starts to stick? As long as the surface of the cookware has been properly cared for, food should not stick.
    • After a while it’s normal that non stick properties will reduce. This process can be accelerated by prolonged exposure of the non stick surface to high heat during cooking owing to carbonisation of food and oil.
    • Thermolon™ non stick is excellent for short term high heat searing and frying.

    Cooking oil and butter:

    • Remember, some oils and fats burn at lower temperatures. We suggest you use the “Butter test”: Heat the pan over medium to medium-high heat and then put a small amount of butter in the pan. When the butter begins to bubble briskly (it should not brown), the pan is ready to use.  If the butter begins to burn and turn brown, the heat setting is too high.  Carefully wipe the burned butter out of the pan with a paper towel, lower the heat and begin again.
    • Fats and oils work in various temperature ranges.  We recommend olive oil; it’s healthier and has a relatively high burn point.
    • Allow the oil to heat for a minute before adding food to the pan.  If you prefer using aerosol sprays, we recommend that you spray the food, not the pan.  These sprays cause residue build-up that is difficult to remove from all types of cookware.

    Utensils:

    • Metal utensils will cause scratching of any non stick surface. Plastic, rubber, or wooden utensils are recommended to prolong the life of the pan.
    • Do not cut food while it is in the pan.

    3) Care and Cleaning:

    • Allow pan to cool and then clean it thoroughly after each use.
    • Putting a hot pan in water can cause irreparable warping.
    • Your GreenPanTM product is very easy and convenient to clean. In the case of dishwasher use, the non stick properties of ceramic non stick coatings can be broken down by the hardness of the water and the aggressive alkaline detergents commonly used in a dishwasher. Hence, to preserve your pan we recommend that you simply wash it in warm, soapy water. Rinse and dry with a soft towel or kitchen paper.
    • Do NOT use steel wool or nylon scrubbing pads. For best results, clean with a cloth or soft sponge.
    • Do NOT use oven cleaner or any cleaner that is abrasive or which contains chlorine bleach. Do not gouge the non stick coating.
    • If black deposits form on your non stick coating this is likely to result from prolonged exposure of the non stick surface to high heat during cooking with fats and oils which break down at high temperatures.  To remove these deposits, do not use any abrasive cleaners or scoring pads, as this will damage your surface. The only way of removing them is soaking for several hours in hot soapy water followed by patient rubbing with a soft cloth.
    • Food films, if not removed, may cause discoloration on the pan when reheated.  If this occurs, simply heat some white vinegar in the pan (avoid breathing the vinegar fumes) and then clean as normal.
    • Slight surface marks and discolorations are normal. The only difference with black coloured coatings and Thermolon™ is that stains and other marks show up more visibly on the light Grey ThermolonTM surface.
    • Halogen and ceramic stovetops – Take care to ensure that your stovetop and your GreenPanTM product is kept free from debris so as not to scratch the ceramic stovetop’s surface.
